What does it mean to be American? As we navigate the road to the upcoming presidential election, many will try to define this for us. With both the Republican National Convention and Democratic National Convention now behind us, we are rapidly approaching November. Politicians and pundits will soon dominate the conversation, each trying to convince us of what's best and what we should desire from our leaders.
But this series, We The Americans, isn't about them. It's about you.
What We’re Looking For
We're seeking submissions that explore the many facets of being American. We want to hear from everyday people—people like you—who are living, working, and contributing to our communities. What does it mean to be American in your eyes? How do education, work, family, community, place-based issues, or even life and death, shape your understanding of our nation?
Topics could include, but are not limited to:
Reflections on what it means to be American
Personal stories or experiences related to education, work, and family
The role of community in shaping American identity
Place-based issues that are critical to your life or work
Thoughts on life, death, and the values that define our nation
Why Submit?
The goal of We The Americans is simple: to create a space where everyday Americans can tell their stories and dive deeper into what it truly means to be American. This is your chance to be part of a national conversation, to share your voice, and to be heard.
